Frequently Asked Questions
Do you print paperbacks or just ebooks?
Yes. Buy them both here. We love the paper and the electrons equally.
Where can I buy World Weaver Press books?
Why, right here on our website! You can also find us on Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble, Books-A-Million, IndieBound, Kobo, and iTunes. Through our partnership with Ingram, most bookstores can order copies of our books at your request.
Do you do wholesale?
We're sold through Ingram or you can order through us directly.
What do you mean by "speculative fiction"?
We're so glad you asked. "Speculative fiction" encompasses all avenues and sub-genres of fiction that has speculative elements. Want a longer answer with examples and venn diagrams? We've got a blog post for you right here.
Are you hiring freelance editors or artists?
Not at this time.
Are you hiring interns?
Not at this time. WWP internships are unpaid.
Do you review books? / Will you write a review of my book on your blog?
No, we're a publisher. We publish books.
When will you be accepting novel queries again?
We do not plan to open to novel or novella queries in the near future. That could change. See our guidelines.
Do you accept short stories?
Only if it's submitted to an open anthology call.
Do you consider reprints of novels?
No.
Do you publish short story collections?
You mean like this one? However, we are not currently considering collections.
Do you work with literary agents?
Yes. We are not currently open to either agented or unagented queries.
Do I need an agent to query you?
No. We are not currently open to either agented or unagented queries.
Do you accept simultaneous submissions/queries?
When we are open for submissions (which we are currently not), yes, you may submit elsewhere at the same time. We believe requesting exclusivity on a query, story, or manuscript when we can't guarantee that we'll have a decision within a week or two is ridiculous and a disservice to the writer.
What's your average reply time?
Depends. Response times for anthologies vary widely and depend on the editor's approach to the slush pile: sometimes replies are same-day, sometimes months later. We try to let writers know if their story has been declined or it's made the anthology's short list as soon as we can, even though final decisions could be a long time coming. If more than two months have passed with no response, please contact the editor to make sure your story was received.
What rights do you contract for novels, novellas, and short story collections?
Exclusive world-wide right to publish in the English language in electronic-book and print. (Collections of short stories: exclusive right to publish collection, non-exclusive right to individual story reprints.) We do not seek audio, film, or foreign language rights at this time.
What rights do you contract for stories in anthologies?
Exclusive world-wide right to publish in the English language in electronic-book and print for one year; non-exclusive rights for the life of the anthology. Exceptions to exclusivity are granted for Best of the Year anthologies and similar opportunities.
What's your royalty rate?
39% of net sales for any edition. Net is calculated after printers, distributors, shippers, and retailers take their cut. Basically, whatever money we make on the title, we send 39% of it to you, the author. The rest goes to cover the editing, art, design and layout, advertising, and publicity costs. We do not pay royalties to anthology authors.
How often do you pay royalties?
Semi-annually, June and December.
How much of a book's publicity do you handle?
We send out press releases to reading-related media outlets, contact reviewers, and schedule a book blog tour. There is a minimum amount of author participation we need to make this happen, but we've found that the authors who are most involved and show extra initiative in furthering and expanding their publicity have the best results.
