DescriptionSome ransoms aren’t meant to be paid. Kidnap and Ransom negotiation used to be straightforward. The bad guys kidnap someone, and K&R expert Jackson Pastor negotiates their release, skillfully traversing a maze of bloodthirsty monsters: criminals, terrorists, police, and especially the FBI.
But that was before he met real bloodthirsty monsters. When Jackson Pastor arrives in Los Angeles to help a new client recover his kidnapped wife, he finds himself dropped in the middle of a 500-year-old war between rival European and Mexican vampire clans, a conflict that threatens to escalate into a full-on public gang war. Worse, Jackson hasn’t been brought to Los Angeles to be a negotiator. His new boss wants to turn him into an assassin. With Jackson about to be caught in the middle of a clan war, his only hope of escape may lie with a secret FBI monster-hunting task-force led by a very dangerous, eccentric wizard. Which could be a problem, since Jackson’s a monster himself. Blood Chimera is a gritty, noir-style mystery of paranormal proportions where nothing is as it seems, not even the term “vampire.” ExcerptWe hit the road quickly. The entire attack on Scissor’s mansion hadn’t taken more than a few minutes, which meant there was a reasonably good chance that the M13s would be long gone by the time the police arrived. We weren’t driving super-fast and weren’t doing anything to draw attention to ourselves. I wasn’t happy about that.
The car ride itself was quiet. No one played the radio, and no one talked. We had the grim silence of a funeral procession. Seconds tripped by in a stupor, and my whole awareness narrowed down to a torturous focus on the single entity in the car who was food. She stopped having a name. She stopped being a person. She had no value at all except for the sweet scent of her blood. “Stop the car,” I said. The M13s rolled their eyes at me. “Stop the car! I need out! I need to get out right now!” I lunged forward, pushing Jessica into the nagual sitting next to her. “Damnit!” The word came out wrong. I was having trouble talking. My tongue felt strange. As hunger seared through me, I realized my teeth hurt. “Shit, look at his eyes.” The one on the front seat grabbed the shoulder of the driver. “Pull over! Look at him. He’s going to sin!” I felt my muscles ripple under my skin. Snarling, I turned towards the food. It screamed. The driver yanked the car over to the side. I heard a whistling sound nearby, and the familiarity of it almost pulled me back from the brink. Then the car behind us blew up. AuthorJenn Lyons lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband, three cats and a lot of opinions on anything from Sumerian creation myths to the correct way to make a martini. At various points in her life, she has wanted to be an archaeologist, anthropologist, architect, diamond cutter, fashion illustrator, graphic designer, or Batman. Turning from such obvious trades, she is now a video game producer by day, and spends her evenings writing science fiction and fantasy. When not writing, she can be found debating the Oxford comma and Joss Whedon’s oeuvre at various local coffee shops.

Praise"Blood Chimera is an absolute masterpiece of sharp writing, fascinating characters, twisty, teasing storylines and non-stop surprises. It is the kind of book that readers find themselves saying 'whoaaaa' out-loud and then glancing around to see if anyone heard them."
— Bitten By Books "Jenn Lyon's Blood Chimera renewed my love and desires for vampire literature."
— Night Owl Reviews "It was like reading a Sandman Slim or Felix Castor book for the first time. I enjoyed myself so much and read it so quickly because I was trying to get to the bottom of things just like Jackson Pastor. I loved it that sometimes, when you thought the characters were being honest, they were really lying; and sometimes, when you thought they were lying, it turned out they were giving truthful answers. I loved that Jackson was almost 100% wrong most of the time about vampires and shapeshifters and the whole complicated supernatural power structure. If this tells you anything, I loved it so much that I immediately gave it to my husband to read because I knew he'd get a kick out of it too." — Amy Good Goodreads Book GiveawayEnter to win |
